Alleged child killer from Bishop Lavis undergoes mental evaluation

A Bishop Lavis family will have to wait a little longer, before they know the mental status of the man accused of killing their child.

Mervyn White appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court on 19 August 2024, where the matter has been postponed to 18 September for further investigation.

5-year-old Xavier Mitchell had been in the care of his nanny, when White, who was the woman's brother, allegedly stabbed him to death.

White claims to be mentally ill and is now being evaluated at the Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital to determine whether that is the case.

Mitchell was laid to rest on 17 August 2024.
