The 17-year-old boy appeared briefly in the Caledon Magistrates Court Monday and the case was postponed to next month for further investigation.

Shortly after 16-year-old Deveney was reported missing two weeks ago, her body was found stabbed in a storeroom on the premises of Overberg High School.

"He masterminded not to be caught for over two weeks and allegedly was part of the search as well, so that’s not a mind of child, that’s a mind of an adult and also his 17-years-old, he should be in a Juvenile detention facility until he turns 18 and should be tried as adult,’’ said Lucinda Evans, Chairperson of One Billion Rising SA

“We believe that his in a place of safety, why does he need to be in a place of safety, when he mercilessly killed Deveney,” added Evans
