Mark Duncan Sowter (56) appeared in the Paarl Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning, the same day he was apprehended.

Provincial Hawks said the discovery of the lab stems from two years ago, when the Hawks received information about steroids that were couriered from Franschoek and distributed to local recipients.

Search and seizure operation was authorised and conducted, and during the search, pressing, sorting and labelling machines, scales and ovens were discovered. Moreover, powder and suspected schedule 4 medicines were also discovered. The value of the steroids is yet to be determined.

Two suspects were arrested separately on this matter, Jade Claire Sowter and Raynard Stander. Both suspects aged 27 have appeared at the Paarl Magistrates Court on 14 February 2024 and they were both released on R15 000 bail each.

Mark Sowter was granted R15 000 bail and the case has been postponed to 16 May 2025, where he will appear alongside his daughter Jade Claire Sowter, and Stander.
