Police sergeant killed at his Muizenberg home

Police are still on the hunt for suspects who killed one of their own.

The 48-year-old sergeant was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside his home in Vrygrond, Muizenberg, on Friday morning.

Police said the officer was dressed in his uniform and on his way to report for duty at the Wynberg SAPS when the unfortunate incident occurred.

‘’At approximately 05:00, the body of the 48-year-old police sergeant was discovered outside his home in Thys Witbooi Street, Vrygrond. He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. At the time of the incident, he was in uniform and was en route to report for duty at Wynberg SAPS. His family members, who were inside the residence, were unharmed,’’ said Colonel Andrè Traut, Western Cape police spokesperson.

The Western Cape Police Commissioner, Thembisile Patekile, has instructed that no resource be spared in the urgent pursuit of those responsible for the murder.

“An attack on any member of the South African Police Service will be met with the full force of the law. We will not rest until justice is served,” said Lt Gen Patekile.

The Hawks has since taken over the investigation.
