A vendor selling vegetables at the Town Centre, Mitchell’s Plain, was shot on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports, the man was standing near Mother of Plain food emporium.
‘’Mitchell’s Plain police responded to a complaint on Thursday 05 June 2025. Upon arrival at the crime scene in 4th Avenue, Eastridge, they found a man who sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a nearby hospital. According to reports the victim was selling vegetables when an un identified man shot the victim at close range . The suspect fled and is yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is still unknown,’’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, Western Cape police spokesperson.
Mitchells Plain police registered a case of attempted
murder for further investigation.
According to the latest crime statistics, Mitchell’s Plain
is ranked third provincially, and twelfth, nationally, with attempted murder
cases reported. The suburb recorded 48 attempted murder cases between January
and March 2025 (57 counts less than the same period in 2024)
