Police are investigating a triple murder that occurred in Browns Farm, Philippi, on Thursday.
According to police, the trio stopped a vehicle in Nyanga and forced the two occupants into the back of the vehicle before they drove off.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut, said the
occupants were hijacked at gunpoint by unknown suspects.
‘’As the vehicle
approached the intersection of Sheffield and Moonwood Roads, it came under
gunfire from unknown assailants. The shooting resulted in the deaths of three
of the alleged hijackers. Their identities and ages are yet to be confirmed. The
motive for the incident remains unclear, and investigators are exploring all
possible scenarios.’’
Nyanga Community Policing Forum (CPF) believes the incident
could be a syndicated crime.
‘’It is understood that there was a fight amongst people
there and the people who shot them were not far from the scene as the people in
the boot were not shot which tells us it is a syndicated crime. We are condemning
the incident and let us educate ourselves by not doing any criminal activity. Once
we start to attack and hijack vehicles, it means we will not get these services
in the future,’’ said Dumisani Qwebe, Nyanga CPF secretary-general.
