A birthday celebration turned deadly over the weekend as two people were shot and killed in Portland, Mitchell’s Plain.
On Friday evening, a resident sent a message on a WhatsApp
community group frantically calling for assistance as unknown suspects entered
her premises. Shortly after, bullets rang.
Western Cape police confirmed that two men were fatally
shot in San Francisco street, Portland, Mitchell’s Plain. Community members
initially thought the two men were teenagers aged 14 and 15, but police
confirmed to Bush Radio News that the victims were 21- and 22-year-old.
‘’Mitchells Plain police are investigating two counts of
murder and two counts of attempted murder following a shooting incident on
Friday night (2025-07-04) at about 20:10 at a premises in San Francisco Street,
Portlands, Mitchells Plain, where two males aged 21 and 22 were shot and
fatally wounded and a 26 year old shot and injured. A 21 year old was not
injured in this incident,’’ said Captain F.C Van Wyk, Western Cape police
spokesperson.
‘’According to reports SAPS members received a complaint of
a shooting at the mentioned address and on arrival at the scene they found the
bodies of two males with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and head.
Both victims were declared deceased by medical personnel. The unknown
assailant/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The motive for this
attack now forms part of the police investigation,’’ he added.
Sources told Bush Radio News that the unknown suspects drove
away in a white VW polo and according to CCTV footage, the car was seen roaming
around the street earlier in the day. It is understood the alleged perpetrator
they were looking for was not at home at the time.
