Communities in Cape Town are fed up with the emerging violence

The increase in violent crime in Cape Town were the focus of discussions in Khayelitsha today.

The Civilian Secretariat for Police Service (CSPS), Director-General Thulani Sibuyi, addressed the community crime-fighting structures following the increase of violence in the city recently.

Police in the Western Cape police have confirmed more than 30 murders across the city in the past two months was due to mass shootings.

The recent gun violence has been linked to extortion, taxi feuds, and gang-related violence. Sibuyi’s visit to Cape Town takes place against the backdrop of deadly taxi-related shootings in Cape Town in the past 24 hours.

Nine people, including taxi drivers and commuters, were shot in separate attacks in Philippi East and Khayelitsha yesterday. Three people died and others were critically injured in both shootings.
