Suspected ongoing gang conflict in Manenberg claimed the lives of three people and wounding another on Thursday morning.
According to police, at
approximately 11:35, four men came under fire from unknown assailants who
opened fire at them in Renoster Road, Manenberg, in what is believed to be a gang-related
drive-by shooting.
‘’Three victims, aged 33, 39,
and 41, were fatally wounded, while a 35-year-old man sustained injuries and
was taken to hospital for medical treatment,’’ said Colonel Andrè Traut,
Western Cape police spokesperson.
Western Cape police condemned
the incident describing it as ‘’senseless violence associated with gangsterism.’’
‘’Western Cape police
management has condemned the continuous cycle of violence that continues to
claim lives and instill fear in communities. Law enforcement agencies remain
resolute in their commitment to dismantling gangs and ensuring the safety of
law-abiding residents,’’ said Traut.
In a separate incident, in the
early hours of Thursday, a man was shot and killed inside his shack.
‘’Circumstances surrounding
the death of a 32 year old male In Manenberg are under investigation. According
to reports, Manenberg SAPS members attended to a shooting incident on
2025-11-13 at about 03:45 in a shack in the canal between Silverstream and
Duinefontein road, Manenberg. Upon their arrival they were shown the body of
the male laying face down inside the shack where he lives. He sustain gunshot
wounds to the stomach and upper body. The 32 year old victim was declared
deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part
of the police investigation,’’ said Captain F.C Van Wyk, Western Cape police
spokesperson.
Meanwhile, a woman was found
with several gunshot wounds to her body. Police confirmed that her body was
found in Tambo Village, Manenberg in the early hours of Wednesday. It is
reported that officers were chasing a suspected stolen vehicle when they found
the deceased.
‘’As they entered Oliver Tambo
Avenue, they spotted a body of a woman behind a grey electric box. The deceased
sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her legs and neck. The motive for the
shooting is unknown at this point,’’ said Ndakhe Gwala, Western Cape police
spokesperson.
The public is urged to assist
by sharing any information that could help with investigations. SAPS assured the
public that all information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
