Two women killed in Portland, M/Plain, in alleged domestic dispute

Two women were fatally shot in Portland, Mitchell’s Plain, on Thursday afternoon. Police confirmed to Bush Radio News that the incident occurred on Wespoort Drive near Portland Primary School and are ascertaining the cause.

‘’Crime scene experts are on the scene of a shooting incident in Wespoort Drive, Mitchell’s Plain where two adult females were shot and fatally wounded and a young boy wounded. More details details will be released once it becomes available,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Reports suggest the matter could be domestic dispute. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) confirmed a learner was injured in the incident.

‘’Reports indicate that two members of a foster family were targeted by allegedly the biological parent of another learner. In addition, an innocent bystander, a Grade 6 learner, was taken to hospital. His injuries are reportedly not life threatening. The WCED has been on the scene to provide support with medical and law enforcement on the scene. Counselling support has been arranged for all learners. This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family, friends and the school communities of those involved,’’ said Bronagh Hammond, WCED spokesperson.

Portland Primary School sent out a letter to parents, reassuring parents that the ‘situation is under control’

‘’We understand that this event has caused concern among parents, learners and staff and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of everyone at our school remain our top priority,’’ said Melanie De Mink, Principal at Portland Primary School.
