Two friends were at shop in Driftsands, on 21 February 2026 at about 21:30, to buy food and while they were waiting for their food, three men got out of a car and randomly shot at them.

‘’While they were waiting for their food, an unknown faded silver brownish Datsun seven seater vehicle stopped at the cafe. The one victim was shot in both legs and was assaulted by one of the suspects and the other victim was shot in the head and upper body. The second unidentified male was busy recording the whole ordeal and shouting at the gunman to shoot,’’ said Captain F.C van Wyk, Western Cape police spokesperson.

‘’The suspects fled the scene in the same vehicle they have arrived in. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, however the one was declared deceased on arrival at the hospital. The footage was collected from surveillance cameras in the area and it became clear that this person is considered as a person of interest and can assist in the investigation,’’ he added.

Anyone with information which can assist with the investigation is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer Detective Captain Johan Louw on 082 522 1529 or alternatively call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
