Residents in ward 104 - which covers Du Noon - who are eligible to vote, are urged to partake in the municipal by-elections on Wednesday.
The vacancies in this ward arose following the resignation
of the ward councillor.
Seven candidates - African National Congress’s Bulelwa
Mayende; African Transformation Movement
(ATM) Zibonele Michael Caji; Democratic Alliance (DA)’s Sinovuyo Miranda
Dyokwe; Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Mabhuti Tshitiza; Organic Humanity
Movement’s Khotso Lebaleng; South African Communist Party (SACP)’s Mxeleli Eric
Mtheli, and Truth and Solidarity Movement’s Mehmet Vefa Dag are contesting the
by-election.
According to the IEC in the Western Cape, there are 18 852 registered voters in this ward. Voting stations will close at 9p.m.
IEC provincial head, Michael Hendrickse said voters who are
in the queue at 9p.m will still be allowed to vote.
Voters must present one of the following valid identity
documents - a Green barcoded ID book; Smart
ID card or a Temporary Identity Certificate
‘’The Electoral Commission encourages all eligible voters
in Ward 104 (City of Cape Town) and Ward 05 (Oudtshoorn) to participate in the
by-elections and exercise their constitutional right to vote. The Commission also calls on political
parties, candidates, party agents and supporters to uphold the Electoral Code of Conduct to ensure peaceful,
free and fair elections,’’ said Hendrickse.
