Seven arrested after boy killed in gang crossfire
Two suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the death of 11-year-old Toufiq Jacobs. Toufiq died when he was caught in the crossfire during a shoot-out between the Yakkies and Bad Boys gangs. He had been playing outside a house in Bokmakierie Street on Monday night when he was hit in the head. He died in hospital the next day. Police spokesperson, Bernadine Steyn, said the investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of another five people in Athlone, Mitchells Plain and Strandfontein when police came across illegal arms and ammunition.
