Water Affairs Minister Buyelwa Sonjica says South Africans should not panic after rat tailed maggots were spotted in water in suburbs in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Sonjica is quoted as saying they do not know how the maggots are getting into the water, but a report about the problem will be released soon. She has assured South Africans that they are being provided with quality drinking water.
Meanwhile, Johannesburg water officials have also said that residents should not be concerned over reports of rat tailed maggots being found in the tap water of a Brakpan home. Jo’burg Water says they have had none such reports within the city of Johannesburg. The utility company says mechanisms are in place to ensure the quality of the water.
