Labour Court finds Old Mutual guilty of racism

The Labour Court has found Old Mutual guilty of racism against black employees. The company has been ordered to pay compensation and costs. Judge Elna Revelas said Old Mutual's failure to take steps to prevent racism among its staff amounted to direct and unfair discrimination. The Cape Times reports that Xolile Finca claimed Old Mutual did not act properly against his colleague Jenny Burger after she allegedly referred to him and another colleague by the k-word. Judge Revelas ordered Old Mutual to deal with Burger in a firm manner that would reflect its intention to rid the workplace of racism.
