Lisa the gorilla dies on operating table

Johannesburg Zoo's Lisa, the 35-year-old widow of famous Max the Gorilla, has died on the operating table. She died during an operation at the zoo's animal hospital to remove a suspected malignant lump the size of a tennis ball from her left armpit. The Star reports that Lisa did not regain consciousness after the operation lasted for two-and-a-half hours. Lisa’s hubby Max achieved fame after being shot by a thief who had run into his cage while fleeing police. He died in his sleep aged 34 two years ago.
