Relief work continues after Taung floods
The National Disaster Management Committee will meet next week to formulate a long-term plan to protect Taung villages against future floods. This follows Provincial and Local Government Minister Sydney Mufamadi’s visit to the area in North West where up to 12 villages, including the hardest-hit Ntswanahatshe, were left devastated when heavy rains destroyed thousands of mostly mud houses, bridges and roads, leaving residents stranded and cut off from the rest of the country. Disaster Management is relocating homeless families to drier areas. Government and non-governmental organisations are also distributing food parcels, blankets and medication to residents.
