Many people were left displaced, and informal settlements including Khayelitsha and Guguletu flooded, after heavy overnight rains and strong winds hit the Cape hard.
Disaster risk management responded and was on standby while workers helped some 7000 flood victims through the night.
According to media reports, many areas had already suffered during the week, but people refused to leave their soaked homes and preferred to stay to protect their few belongings.
The rain is expected to subside by tomorrow. Disaster management teams and aid organisations are out in force to assist people.
