During a Provincial Police Crime Operation over the weekend, a total of 850 additional police officers were deployed over the two day period in the Peninsula.
Additional police vehicles, Dog unit, Mountain unit, Flying Squad and Reservists were deployed, which were assisted by an air patrol, who applied aerial surveillance.
Director Robbie Roberts says a high police visibility was maintained in areas where crime is known to be prevalent. Some police members were also deployed undercover and on foot patrols near various shopping malls.
“We focused on mainly on problematic stations like Nyanga, Harare, Woodstock, Claremont, Cape Town, Bellville, and Table View,” he said.
Roberts also says criminals can expect many more similar operations and actions in the days to come, as these operations will be the order of the day, until they are satisfied with the crime situation.
The reason for the patrols was to combat crime as it was the end of the month and as we approach the festive season.
“We want to ensure people the safest festive season,” adds Roberts.
