South Africa's manufacturing output shrank at a much lower rate in the year to November 2009, compared with the period to October.
Economists say this signals that the sector and the broader economy are on track for a steady recovery after the recession.
Statistics South Africa says factory production contracted by four-point-seven-percent year-on-year in volume terms in November, compared with a revised nine-point-six-percent fall in October.
