The City of Johannesburg says it's optimistic that refuse collection services will resume soon.
Pikitup workers who are members of trade union Samwu are still on strike.
Spokesperson of the mayoral committee, Gabu Tugwana says negotiations will continue with the union in an effort to reach agreement.
Refuse workers at the waste management agency went on strike on Thursday.
Their demands include the commissioning of an internal investigation into allegations of corruption and irregular tenders.
