With the local government elections now just over six-weeks away, the Election Monitoring Network will be launched in Cape Town later today.
The Network, which is funded by the Open Society Foundation, seeks to serve as an early warning system in the upcoming elections.
EMN director Derek Marko says they have put together a group of eminent individuals, including Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, to help smooth the way in this year’s polls.
Marko says the EMN speaks to political parties about their responsibilities and to the Independent Electoral Commission about the election administration.
Marko adds that the EMN is not just a post crisis role but a proactive role to steam any volatility.
