The Department of International Relations and Cooperation has denied reports that South Africans in the Ivory Coast have already been evacuated.
Department spokesperson Clayson Monyela says plans are at an advanced stage, but refused to give any further details.
France this weekend called on its 12 000 citizens in the troubled country to assemble in Abidjan.
Monyela says carrying out an evacuation is a delicate operation.
