The ANC Youth League has categorically denied that League President Julius Malema’s lawyers approached AfriForum for an out of court settlement in their hate-speech trial.
Spokesperson Floyd Shivambu says the League will never approach AfriForum because they are not the ones who have a problem with the song Shoot the Boer. He says as far as they are concerned, the case will continue on the 19th of this month.
The League appealed to AfriForum to desist from sending what it calls lies to the public.
AfriForum's lawyer Willie Spies said on Tuesday that the lobby group had received an e-mail from Malema's lawyers about the possibility of a settlement.
Malema and ANC representatives, including the party's secretary general Gwede Mantashe, told the court the lyrics were from a song from the struggle against apartheid. It was sung now as part of the ongoing battle against economic oppression
