The Home Affairs Department has stated that survivors of the Masiphumelele fire will be able to use temporary identity documents to vote.
This is to prepare for the upcoming local government elections on the 18th of May 2011.
Three people died and about 5,000 lost their homes after a blaze swept through the area.
The Home Affairs Department will be taking a mobile office to the area in the next few days to help residents apply for documents.
