The Western Cape Health Department has embarked on a Medical Male Circumcision campaign from 12-19 May 2011.
Health department spokesperson Zolani Zenzile says this campaign aims to encourage male to circumcise which in turn reduce their chances of contracting HIV/ AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.
“The campaign will be launched at the Heideveld Community Health Centre. The Health Department will circumcise fifty people on the day. They will be given pre and post counseling before and after the procedure takes place.
“A doctor, nurse and professional sister will be on duty at the launch and will conduct the circumcision process, said Zenzile.
Zenzile added that it is opened to everyone, all ages and all races.
“This is a safe, hygienic process done under medical supervision to ensure maximum results,” said Zenzile.
