The Department of International Relations and Co-operation has announced that a decision on the Dalai Lama's South African visa application will not be made public.
Spokesperson Clayson Monyela says the application is undergoing normal processes, and the outcome will be communicated to the applicant.
The department will not inform the press of the outcome and will not be drawn to make a statement when a decision is made. There are reports in the media that the Tibetan leader will be told today whether his application for a visa has been successful.
Most observers feel he will not receive a visa to attend Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s birthday celebrations.
