The Western Cape Transport Department says there has been a significant change in driving patterns in the Beaufort West area, thanks to a newly-installed Average Speed over Distance camera.
Transport MEC Robin Carlise helped man a roadblock after officially launching the Asod camera system over the weekend.
The technology is the first of its kind in the country, and draws its power from wind and solar energy.
Department spokesperson, Steven Otter says a total of 36 fines were issued between 4 and 8pm and of these, 16 were issued for speeding, 10 of which were given to minibus taxi drivers.
