Formula One World Champion, Fernando Alonso, has launched a scathing personal attack on Michael Schumacher following the German driver’s announcement that he will retire at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old Spaniard accused the seven-time world champion Schumacher of being the most unsporting driver in the history of the sport.

“Michael is the most unsporting driver with the largest number of sanctions in the history of Formula One”, said Alonso.

According to the Cape Times, Alonso also attacked what he saw as institutional bias in favour of his German rival and Ferrari team.

Alonso explains, “In Formula One there are commercial and political interests.”

According to the report, Alonso was demoted five places to 10th on Sunday’s Italian grand prix starting grid after Stewards ruled that the Spaniard had impeded Ferrari’s Brazilian Felipe Massa.

Alonso is now two points ahead of his rival Schumacher – because of that incident – from a twelve point lead.
