On Thursday eight Joe Slovo residents, who were charged with public violence last year, will appear in the Cape Town Regional Court in Parow. This comes after residents blockaded the N2 in September 2007.
“We are trying to make sure that on Thursday, almost all the people of Joe Slovo will be in court, because we need to show the court that we didn’t do it for individual purposes, it was the community of Joe Slovo that blockaded the N2,” says spokesperson for the Joe Slovo residents, Mzwanele Zulu- who is also going to appear in court.
Zulu adds that they (the courts) are treating the case as if they couldn’t understand what exactly the intentions of the community were at the time.
“The whole community of Joe Slovo was on the road blocking the N2. Now they are taking only eight people. So we becoming surprised at how they are treating this whole issue now,” explains Zulu.
