Several first-choices of the Proteas One Day International (ODI) squad is going to return to franchise action when the Domestic Championship starts at Sahara Oval St. George’s on Wednesday.
“The opening match features the Chevrolet Warriors against the Gestetner Diamond Eagles,” says Michael Owen-Smith, midea officer for Cricket South Africa.
Owen-Smith agreed that the Proteas players in action include JP Duminy, joint man of the series in the ODI series against the West Indies, from the Cape Cobras, Johan Botha who plays for the Warriors and Albie Morkel from the Titans.
According to Owen-Smith the Cape Cobras are the defending champions and this match will be a repeat of last season’s final at Sahara Park in Newlands.
“All the playing conditions that have been introduced into ODI matches this season will also apply to this Domestic Championship. These include the provision to have three boundary fielders in either the second or third power play, the free hit following a front foot no ball, and the replacement of the ball after 34 overs,” he explains.
According to Owen-Smith these matches will be 45 overs with the day games starting at 10am and the day and night games at 3.45pm.
