The Congress of South African Trade Unions says the ruling vindicates its stance that Zuma’s prosecution has been politically manipulated. Spokesperson Patrick Craven says they agree in particular with Judge Nicholson’s description of the decision in 2003 by the then National Director of Public Prosecutions, Bulelani Ngcuka, not to prosecute Zuma despite the presence of a prima facie case against him, as “bizarre”.
Craven said that the outcome of the case indicated the stance that they have always taken as Cosatu regarding the Zuma case. He added that they have welcomed the judgement in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
