A 79-year-old Hout Bay resident died of a heart seizure, shortly after an interview with the police.
A security company in the area was called out after receiving a complaint of house-breaking from the 79-year-old, who lives with his wife at retirement village.
Inspector Tanya Lesch said the police were unsure about how entry was gained by the burglars but they found that the burglar bars were removed.
Lesch added that the complainant ordered his wife to lock herself in the room because of an intruder in the house.
“He also informed the security guard of a young african man that was in his house and did not feel well and passed away on the scene.”
Lesch said the deceased had a small cut on his right forearm.
“His wife was transported via ambulance to a hospital because she was very traumatised.”
It is not yet known whether anything was stolen from the house and a case of house robbery was opened.
No arrests have been made yet and there were no eyewitnesses on the scene.
Anyone who can assist with the investigation is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
