As many South Africans across the country looked forward to a long break this weekend, politicians were hard at work campaigning for their parties ahead of the up and coming elactions this month.
Tripartite alliance leaders Zwelinzima Vavi, Blade Nzimande and Jeff Radebe were scheduled to address an election rally in Durban’s Cleremont Township today.
This event coincides with The South African Communist Party is holding a memorial rally in remembrance of the party's assassinated general secretary, Chris Hani, outside Louis Trichardt in Limpopo today. Hani was shot and killed outside his home in Boksburg on the 10th of April 16 years ago. Clive Derby-Lewis and Polish immigrant Janus Walusz are still behind bars for Hani's murder. Their death sentences were commuted to life imprisonment
Inkatha Freedom Party leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi was expected at the University of Zululand on Saturday. The IFP leader will then address a rally in Harrismith on Monday.
Meanwhile African National Congress President Jacob Zuma was scheduled to attend another church service at Zuurbekom on the West Rand. The ANC leader will have a busy day on Monday when he attends two rallies in KwaZulu Natal, culminating in a meeting with traditional leaders in Richards Bay.
