While thousands of Capetonians took to the polls today, operations were slow at the Independent Electoral Commission ( IEC) Results Operation Centre (ROC)held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) this afternoon.

Few political parties were present at the ROC and most media houses were on a bus tour to various voting stations across the Cape.

Making their mark: Voters at a polling station in Cape Town

By 13h40, the number of voters who had cast their ballots in the City of Cape Town stood at 195,312. That figure represents 11,36% of the 1,719,878 registered voters in the same district.

The number is expected to increase dramatically over the next few hours, while voting stations are to speed up operations.
