Police commissioner Bheki Cele is furious over the recent arrest of three Gauteng police officers.
The police members were arrested for allegedly stealing police R-5 rifles and selling them to criminals.
Cele has undertaken to root out such rotten apples in the service.
He has also acted to safeguard police weapons after 147 R-5’s went missing in the past year.
He says the guns will in future be issued to individuals to ensure accountability.
Cele assures the community in a statement that corrupt police members will not be tolerated.
