A forensic investigation into the City of Cape Town’s Integrated Rapid Transit project has found that there is enough evidence to carry out a disciplinary hearing against a staff member.
The investigation probed the reasons for the increase in the project’s budget, the underestimate, the process, expenditure and who was responsible for certain decisions.
In a statement released by the City, it found no evidence of fraudulent activities, but even so, an unnamed official will face a “disciplinary process driven by an external facilitator”.
The IRT is one of the biggest infrastructure development projects ever undertaken in the city.
