The City of Cape Town has extended its deadline to members of the public who want to take advantage of the rates rebate.
The rebate is offered to registered homeowners with a total household income of R8 000 a month or less; aged 60 years or older; or if they are beneficiaries of a disability pension or grant.
In a media statement, Alderman Ian Neilson, Deputy Executive Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, said more than 19 000 people who met these requirements successfully registered for this relief last year but, although the same number had registered this year, he felt that there were other potential recipients that the Municipality would like to help, but who had not yet registered.
To maximise the benefits of this policy, the City has therefore extended the deadline for applications from 31 October until 30 November 2009.
