A Tongaat principal and some of his pupils say Afrikaans is the language of the oppressor and has no relevance to Indian children in KwaZulu-Natal.
Buffelsdale Secondary principal Vishnu Naidoo sent a letter to the national Department of Education asking it to address the issue of Afrikaans in former Indian schools in the province.
Naidoo says 49 pupils failed the subject last year with below 30-percent.
He was quoted as being of the opinion that it is crime to force Indian children to continue to learn the language.
