Protest action by SACCAWU (South Africa Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union) against alleged racist practices in the workplace at Pick ‘n Pay will move to Cape Town on Friday.
Last week SACCAWU members employed at the retailer took to the streets in four major cities around the country.
However, in Cape Town SACCAWU was not granted permission by the police to protest on the 11th of December and will now embark on protest action on Friday.
In a statement, SACCAWU says they expect more than 4 000 of their 5 000 members to join the protest march in the city on Friday.
SACCAWU further says that their demands are clear but there has been a “profound failure in the transformation of the workplace and racism is still rife in the workplace”.
