Athlone car dealer arrested for fraud

A well known Athlone car dealership has been arrested by Ghost Squad on charges of alleged fraud, tempering or defacing a document and defeating the ends of justice.

Traffic Services spokesperson Kevin Jacobs says, the owner’s vehicle, a Nissan GTR was seen displaying a temporary registration permit which is usually valid for a period of 21 days.

When the officers went back to the car sales premises the next morning to see the owner, they noticed that the Nissan now had the correct registration plates as well as a valid licence token displayed”.

“Later the afternoon, the officers returned, waited for the owner to arrive and subsequently arrested him. He was taken to the Athlone Police Station and will be appearing in court soon,” said Kevin Jacobs.
