Commenting on the Department of Health’s readiness for 2010, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said the biggest challenge is that the FIFA Soccer World Cup will be held in June, when there is a possibility of another bout of the deadly H1N1 Swine Flu virus.
He announced at the State of the Nation Address debate that the department will distribute 1.3 million doses of the swine flu vaccine, in a bid to combat the spread of the virus.
“We are going to vaccinate all the people who have been selected starting with pregnant women, people at the entry points and people involved in sports administration,” said the Minister.
Motsoaledi also revealed that the department has received a donation of a further 3.5million doses of the vaccine, from the World Health Organisation, that is expected to arrive in March.
“This donation received from the World Healh Organisation has saved the country no less than R250 million,” said Motsoaledi.
