DA slams ANC’s refusal to withdraw by election candidate

Diane Kohler Barnard, DA shadow Minister on Police, has slammed the ANC’s decision not to withdraw its candidate, Dumezweni Ndlovu, who is a convicted armed robber and hijacker, from yesterday’s by election in eThekwini.

She says this move indicates that the ANC is as morally bankrupt as its candidate.

The previous day the ANC said it would investigate Ndlovu’s background, and vowed to take action if they found him guilty of the charges.

“Well, they have clearly investigated the matter and come to the same conclusion as everyone else, but they have failed to take any action at all.
“Instead, they have said that it is too late to withdraw him. That is, frankly, a cop-out,” said Kohler Barnard.

It sometimes is too late to withdraw candidates, even though the DA does not believe this. I lived in a Ward in Mitchell's Plain where the DA candidate died before the elections, and the elections still had to go ahead even though the candidate has died. We then had a by-elections a few months later.
