Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane says there will be further investigation into allegations of negligence on the part of nurses at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg.
She made the announcement after meeting with the families of the six babies who died in the hospital earlier this year.
The parents of the deceased raised various complaints about the hospital and its nurses.
The Premier says she has been told by parents about how babies at the hospital are left to lie in wet and soiled incubators and syringes are being used more than once on different babies.
Mokonyane said If it requires that people must be disciplined, we will follow those departmental processes and procedures in disciplining those individuals.
“We believe that we will do everything within out own abilities to make sure that incidents of this nature do not occur unless it is totally outside of our control,” she said.
