At the African National Congress’ National General Council which came to an end last week Friday, it was decided the National Health Insurance scheme would be introduced by 2012.

Today Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said “the state will spend more money on upgrading hospitals than it did on stadiums for the FIFA World Cup.

Billions of rand will be spent to improve healthcare by renovating rundown hospitals in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo”.

The government plans that the insurance scheme would change the face of public healthcare in the country, which the scheme would be paid for by taxpayers.
