State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele has refused to back away from his quest to classify potentially thousands of State documents.
Cwele told Parliament’s ad hoc committee on the Protection of Personal Information Bill that under the new law he would allow classified information to be disclosed to lawyers, the Auditor General and the Public Protector, but not to the media.
Meanwhile, The Democratic Alliance says Cwele missed an important opportunity to make positive proposals, in response to public submissions, on the Protection of Information Bill.
DA’s member of the Ad hoc Committee on the Protection of Information Bill David Maynier says Cwele simply does not get it.
