A total of four mineworkers have died in separate incidents this week in South Africa’s mining industry.
The accidents happened at the Simmer & Jack’s Buffelsfontein mine, Goldfields’ Driefontein mine, Rand Uranium’s Ezulwini mine and Anglogold Ashanti‘s Mponeng mine.
Meanwhile, a mineworker went missing yesterday at Lonmin‘s Karee mine in Rustenburg.
A miner who went missing on Monday at Anglogold‘s Mponeng mine outside Carletonville has been found dead yesterday after a fall of ground.
A search and rescue team has been sent out to continue their search for the miner.
The National Union of Mineworkers has accused the Chamber of Mines of releasing incorrect mine death statistics.
The union expects the chamber to provide real leadership in the matter.
