The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has confirmed that over 20 municipalities have under-spent.
The municipalities under-spent up to 920-million-Rands from the 41-billion-Rands allocated to them in the budget.
Mbombela and OR Tambo municipalities in Mpumalanga and Eastern Cape provinces have the highest under-expenditure of 83-million and 52-million-Rands respectively.
Through a partnership with the Development Bank of Southern Africa, under-spending municipalities are being provided with the necessary technical skills.
