The World Anti-Doping Agency says it is highly possible that the two Springbok rugby players sent home from Europe after failing doping tests were not aware that they were ingesting a banned substance.
Bjorn Basson and Chiliboy Ralepelle have been suspended after they tested positive for a stimulant.
Team doctor Craig Roberts said “Both were on medication that we have used for a long time and have not had problems with before. The medicine prescribed is used for the standard treatment of colds and flu. We will look at everything, but it is highly unlikely that it was the medicine”.
Springbok coach Peter de Villiers said “We are tested all the time. When the news came last night, as we were finishing up our analysis of our game at the weekend, we were speechless. We have not slept since as we try to get to the bottom of it.”
