The City of Cape Town says the cleanup of an oil spill near Blouberg Strand over the weekend has gone relatively well.

The oil escaped from the Seli One bulk carrier, which ran aground two-years ago, on Friday night.

The City’s Kylie Hatton says cleanup staff cleared most of the affected beach but will return to the site later this morning.

She says the public has also been advised to stay away from the affected area.
